Old South Pittsburg Hospital written by Dawn Andrews of VA chapter!
Let’s start with some of the history that is behind the hospital and what makes it a hot spot for the paranormal. The hospital was built in 1959 by four physicians. The hospital is a 68,000 square foot medical facility and was built in the response to the growing needs of the local community. After a few years the hospital had been keeping up with the demands of the
community but later began to lose some of the use for the community.
The hospital then closed its doors for good in 1998. The hospital has made a name for itself over the years. The reason why is because it allegedly had sold-out to another hospital or
it was a surplus property. Others claim the facility has supernatural happenings which is caused by malpractices, murders, and other strange goings.
Some people believe that reclamation of the land and all the loss is what spurred the spiritual activity in the hospital. Even some of the staff that use to work there will say they have seen objects move on there own and dark shadow figures, voices, and even small children playing in the halls. Some of the figures that you may come across are the ones who died or worked there.
One is a small child by the name of Buddy. He was a two year-old who was brought in the ER by his mother because he had swallowed and was choking on a small toy. The boy couldn’t be saved and passed in the ER. It loves to play ball and loved his teddy bear. So, if you bring a ball, he might just play with you.
Another spirit you might want to keep an eye and ear out for is the “Naughty Nurse.” She was known for loving her work and her patients. But sometimes liked to flirt and wear her
scrubs a little tight. It is said if you ask for help, she will come and help you. So, when your there give it a try and see what happens.
There's a male Doctor who is either in the ER or in the surgical rooms. He moves from place to place so sometimes its hard to find him and get his help when you need it. Another one is also a male spirit and he is the janitor. Who was always cleaning, and he kept the hospital in shape and was also lending a hand when it was needed!
Now that the history is all here and your caught up, here is some of what happened when we went and did an investigation. We started off with the tour which I recommend you do. Once we did that, we got all the gear we needed to start the investigation. We decided to start on the 3rd floor end of the west wing in Nelly's room. She was an older lady who passed in her room of old age. So, we decided to start off with a spirit box session. One of the many things I asked her was if liked her room door closed and instantly, we got no. She did a great job with the k2 meter she had sent it all the way to red. She likes to have visitors and she loves gifts, so if you go please take her a gift. When one of our team members left her a necklace, she set the rempod off like crazy.
Then we went to the hallway on the 3rd floor near where the babies where kept after they where born. There is a dream catcher hanging up, "let me just say this there aren’t any
windows open so no breeze at all." The dream catcher was moving by itself. We tired a lot to debunk it and couldn’t. Next stop was the 2nd floor nurses station. I was dressed as a
nurse in full on scrubs and used myself as a trigger object. Which I think worked in some way.
We had some hits on the rempod and two of my team members hard a noise on the wall next to them that sound like scratching. Next, was the sound of walking and a door opening. And we also heard the elevator moving. Team 2 also got a lot as well. A video recording of a woman’s voice talking and much more. We all decided to go down to what everyone called the fake chapel and we did a spirit box, rempod and we also used the cat balls as well. Little Buddy really liked the cat ball and played with it a lot. We got good communication to come through the spirit box. One being my favorite “I’m trying to” we believe as Buddy when asked to light the ball up again.
We ended the night back on the 3rd floor in Nelly's room and we got huge rempod hits almost the whole time we were up there. She really enjoyed the gift Haley had left for her. So, if you go please don’t poke at them. Again, there is nothing bad there at all. Every spirit there was friendly and loves to talk to you.
